Jingdezhen onglaze decorated porcelain, famille rose, is one of four major Jingdezhen porcelain wares enjoying high reputation at home and abroad, also called "Rose Family Porcelain" in the west. The pattern is first drawn on the white glost fired body, filled with "glass white" pigment, then color painted with brushwork, and finally baked in a decorative firing kiln.

Famille Rose was fiest created in the late Kangxi reign of Qing Dynasty on the basis of Kangxi polychrome decoration, directly influenced by foreign enamel decoration. It can be also called soft color due to its rich colors and soft elegance. Yongzhen Famille Rose appealed to the people, and it was developed to a basic decorated porcelain in Jingdezhen.

Jingdezhen Famille Rose Porcelain is of great varieties, and is applied on the pieces of bowls, plates, jars, dinner wares, tea sets, stationery and screens etc. We can see this kind of decoration on some very small sized vases, sniff boxes, etc. or on severalmeter-high vases, over 1 meter tall porcelain jars and very long wall painting. Traditional Chinese painting skills are adopted in its technique. Some are simple but succinct, and some are fine and delicate. A great number of Famille Rose Wares are artistic treasures in the world.
