Porcelain sculpture may be formed using a variety of techniques to make in different shapes of figures, animals and flowers. Some of these techniques are modeling, carving, engraving, embossed and relief decoration. Ceramic sculpture started in Jingdezhen in the Sui Dynasty. All types of elegant and refined sculptures were increasingly made during the Song Dynasty. During the Yuan Dynasty, the sculpture developed in different types of charming styles. In the Ming Dynasty, the techniques for creating sculptures were advanced by the invention of polychrome pigments. This decorative style is a new innovation in color. Today, porcelain sculpture bas rushed the boundaries of new ideas and forms. The creation of some traditional porcelain sculptures has reached highest standards, such as Avalokitesvara (Guan Yin), Three Stars (happiness, high position and long life), the Eight Taoist Immortals Crossing the Sea Riding on a Variety of Sea Created, Eighteen Arhats and so on. These vivid and impressive sculptures are created based on the figures from the traditional Chinese literature. Some animal sculptures are very lively and attractive. Various techniques are used in three-dimensional sculptures, cameo engraving, applied relief, etc. |
