Blue and white porcelain
is initially painted with cobalt pigment on the green clay bodies, then
covered with a layer of clear glaze, and fired at a very high temperature.
The blue pigment melts in between the clay body and glaze, sparkling,
crystal clear and blue. Blue and white porcelain comes to the top position
of four major Jingdezhen porcelain wares, first created during the Yuan
Dynasty.
Since the reign of Yongle in the Ming Dynasty, the production of
blue and white porcelain became the principal Chinese ceramic industry,
and dominated the main industry in Jingdezhen with the strongest national
style, the most influential and exquisite porcelain in the world.
